Abstract

Unconventional reservoirs are made up of organic-rich source rocks in which the organic matter has matured thermally but the hydrocarbons formed during maturation have not migrated. Hydrocarbons trapped in tight source rocks are challenging to extract, requiring nontraditional methods such as directional drilling and reservoir stimulation via hydraulic fracturing. This special section is dedicated to various geophysical aspects of unconventionals.
