Abstract

AbstractWith this publication we offer a space for critical reflection on participatory practices in art and cultural heritage. Our focus is on the emergence of new norms and forms of collaboration as participation, and on actual lessons learned from such participatory practices. If collaboration entails the acceptance of a shared problem space and necessitates an interdependent formulation of common problems (Rabinow and Bennett 2012), how best can we learn to collaborate across disciplinary boundaries and what exactly can be learned through and from such collaborations? What does it mean to practice collaboration, and how can we learn to better engage in and conceptualize participation? With these questions in mind, our volume explores instances of collaborative participatory practices in art and cultural heritage.
