Abstract
As program chairs, we have the pleasure to introduce this special issue dedicated to the 4 th edition of REACTION, the International Workshop on Real-time Computing and Distributed Systems, that was held in Porto on December 29 th , 2016 as a co-located event to RTSS. REACTION aims at presenting contributions with a clear applied vision around, but not limited to, the challenging problems in the integration of real-time computing and distributed systems. The focus of the event is at the confluence area between distributed systems and real-time applications, that includes communication middleware, operating systems, virtualization technology, modeling or timely operation in distributed systems, among others.
