Abstract
Abstract This set of papers documents the results of the Workshop on Process Identification held at the 42nd Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference in October 1992. Three university and two industrial groups participated in the workshop, where they were asked to identify process models for an industrial distillation column. The goal of the workshop was to permit valid comparisons among the identification methods currently in use in industry, and those proposed by academic researchers. This first paper outlines the workshop problem itself.
