Abstract

The orbitofrontal cortex has for long been implicated in emotion, though it is only relatively recently that there has been a firm scientific foundation for understanding how it functions, which is the central theme of this book. The different parts of the orbitofrontal cortex are described. Because of the major developments in the evolution of the orbitofrontal cortex in primates including humans, most of the book focusses on the functioning of the orbitofrontal cortex in primates including humans. However, the rodent orbitofrontal cortex is described in Chapter 8.
