Abstract

TO MY KNOWLEDGE, there has never been a conference on undergraduate teaching in dermatology. This conference, then, is unique. It should stimulate us, confuse us, defeat us, puncture our egos, but also show us how little we know about that which we are supposed to be expert. If it does nothing more than that, it will have been worthwhile. cannot help but remember Dr. Walter C. Lobitz's speech before the Association of Professors of Dermatology, Dec 1, 1963: I wanted to be a doctor of medicine. By taking special training in medical school for four years, became a doctor of medicine. Next, decided wanted to be a dermatologist. After one year of internship, one year of internal medicine and three years of dermatology training, became a Board qualified specialist.
