Abstract

In September 1980 the European Federation of Productivity Services and the European Association for Personnel Management held their fifth triennial joint international conference on work and pay in Amsterdam. The conference attracted 450 participants from 20 different European countries and Canada. The opening address was given by the Minister of Social Affairs of the Netherlands, Dr W. Albada, and during the three days of the conference 40 different papers on various aspects of work, performance and pay in these various countries were presented and discussed. This special issue of Management Decision contains a selection of these papers, restricted to those which were presented in English. Some of the papers which were presented in other languages have been translated and it is hoped to publish them in later editions of Management Decision.
