Abstract
Members and guests of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene:The Charles Franklin Craig lecture was established in 1936 by the Society. Founded to honor an outstanding pioneer in American tropical medicine, the Craig lecture has annually served to bring before this Society a distinguished contributor to the field of tropical medicine. As Dr. Justin Andrews has noted in listing past Craig lecturers, the names of the incumbents constitute a veritable “Who's Who” of Tropical Medicine. It is apparent that Lectureship Committees have acted with dual objectives. Through the mechanism of the Craig Lecture the Society has recognized the outstanding scientific accomplishments of an established expert in some phase of tropical medicine. In so doing, it has selected a lecturer eminently qualified to present a vital summary of relevant knowledge pertaining to some aspect of our specialty, thereby providing the highpoint of our scientific program.In presenting Dr. Donald B. McMullen as the 27th Craig Lecturer, your Committee is confident that Dr. McMullen will add luster to an already illustrious series.
