Introduction to Swedish Artists and Critics at Grez-sur-Loing

Abstract

This introduction provides an overview on some of the most important Swedish source material as well as significant previous research about the Swedish artists within the international colony allocated in Grez-sur-Loing in the 1870's and 1880's. The text also gives an outline of the Swedish historiography on the Grez colony, including problems that arised from the national art history writing of the nineteenth century and its consequences.
