Abstract
When conducting mixed methods analysis there are resources to assist with thinking about how to conduct the analysis, but few resources that show how to move from mixed methods data to results using SPSS. This chapter presents step by step guidance for using SPSS in mixed methods research studies. First, a definition of mixed analysis with SPSS is presented. Second, when it is appropriate to use SPSS for mixed analysis in mixed research studies is discussed. Third, a sample of mixed analyses available to conduct with SPSS is introduced. Fourth, the 17 steps for using SPSS with data from a mixed methods research study are outlined and a step by step empirical demonstration is provided. Next, the SPSS menus for conducting many mixed research analyses are presented. Strengths and limitations of SPSS for mixed analyses in mixed methods research studies are outlined. Finally, resources for learning more about using SPSS for mixed analysis are recommended.
