Abstract

This chapter introduces the topics of probability and statistics as applied to environmental and health risk and risk assessment procedures. This summary includes topics on probability definitions and interpretations; basic probability theorems; median, mean, and standard deviation of measured data sets; random variables; probability distributions; and linear regression techniques. Four illustrative examples and four related problems are presented that address the application of probability and statistics in environmental and health risk assessment.
