Event Abstract Back to Event Introduction to Electron Microscopy Moritz Helmstaedter1* 1 Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology, Germany Electron Microscopy has experienced a revival in the past decade, based on the goal of imaging neural tissue at the required scope and resolution for dense circuit mapping. The lecture will review the advantages and limitations of conventional serial sectioning transmission electron microscopy. It will then cover novel automated electron microscopy techniques that have fueled hopes to reconstruct neural circuits with substantial completeness, a methodological prerequisite for the neuroscientific research now termed “connectomics”.
