Abstract
Dr. MA Shao-qun (1903-1992), a native of Hejian County, Hebei Province, loved reading medical books in his spare time, and thus knew about moxibustion. In 1934, he learnt warm-tube moxibustion by correspondence teaching from the "Oriental Acupuncture Agency" in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. Dr. MA improved and adapted Japanese warm moxibustion to initiate MA’s Moxibustion. He compiled Concise Warm Moxibustion Therapy and taught this therapy nationwide. In this way, he collected much clinical experience from other doctors’ and his own practice Dr. MA had written and printed Practice of Warm Moxibustion, Chinese Warm Moxibustion, and Treatment of Heart Diseases by Warm Moxibustion in 1960s and 1970s. His MA’s Warm Moxibustion Therapy was formally published by Beijing Scientific and Technical Press in April, 1994. Based upon his fifty years of clinical practice, Dr. MA created a unique moxibustion therapy that is MA’s Warm Moxibustion Therapy. Apart from the warming effects on acupoints, this therapy also exerts the pharmacological action of herbs.
