Abstract

Fluids engineering is a huge subject and involves not just fluid machinery but also the entire flow system. The major foundations of fluids engineering are fluid mechanics and mechanical principles. A tendency in recent years is new flow phenomena are constantly revealed. Meanwhile, the complexity of these flow phenomena is apparently high. A broad range of challenges in fluids engineering are being faced by both engineers and researchers. Fluid itself is inherently complex; meanwhile, operation environment nurtures many unknowns. In this chapter, a brief overview of the problems encountered in fluids engineering is presented. Fundamental flow characteristics and typical flow system are covered.
