Abstract

In this focus issue on emerging topics in breast cancer, many diverse themes are explored and are timely given the current state of this topic as well as the changing landscape of breast cancer detection and care. Miles et al. [1] show that general health-related cost concerns is associated with decreased screening mammography utilization. This highlights the importance of understanding the social context of our patients to continue to improve care delivery. For example, as practices continue to focus on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts to ensure that physicians and providers reflect the range of patients’ lived experiences, Grimm et al demonstrate patient trust in screening mammography reports are associated with radiologist-patient race concordance among Black patients [2].
