Abstract

Transport is the essential requirement for the growth of any country because it is the critical component of supply chain management. An efficient transportation system should also be clean to human health and environment. In recent years, conventional internal combustion (IC) engines used in transportation sector are facing many issues related to their performance, emissions and sustainability due to rapidly depleting fossil fuel resources. This book deals with these issues and presents solutions as advanced engine technologies and alternative fuels for IC engines. This book covers state-of-the-art technologies, which can be adapted in IC engines for improving their performance and emission characteristics. This book covers several chapters about dimethyl-ether (DME) in which potential of DME along with its compatibility has been discussed. This book also covers biofuels in which biogas and biodiesel have been discussed as potential alternative fuels for IC engines. The next section of this book discusses the advanced combustion and engine technologies for both spark ignition (SI) as well as compression ignition (CI) engines, which can be used to improve the engine operational and performance characteristics. Overall, this book provides the solutions for sustainability of IC engines.
