Abstract

This introductory chapter talks about the world bank administrative tribunal at thirty in which the Opening Remarks delivered to the symposium on the Development and Effectiveness of International Administrative Law 23 March 2010, Washington D. C. Jan Paulsson, president of the World Bank Administrative Tribunal and co-sponsor of this symposium, Graeme Wheeler, David G. Hawkes, a representative of the World Bank Group Staff Association, David Caron and Anne-Marie Leroy spoke about the Administrative Tribunal. Jan Paulsson spoke about its working and briefed about the future sessions. David G. Hawkes, said that of the reasons why the Administrative Tribunal was created was that the World Bank Group, as an International Organization, has privileges and immunities. Graeme Wheeler said that the Administrative Tribunal plays a critical role in the WBG. The Tribunal deals with complex issues-often relating to concerns about termination of employment, the threat of retaliation and access to CRS services.
