Introduction of recovery position training to healthcare students

Abstract

Healthcare students often need Basic Life Support certification. Does this include the recovery position? This study evaluated healthcare students' ability to place a victim into the recovery position. Participants entered a simulated, multi-victim active shooting scene and had to care for a human victim. 16.9% of nursing students placed the victim in the recovery position, compared to 11.1% of non-nursing students. The findings support recovery position training to better respond to a multi-victim incident.
