Abstract

Different surface treatments of glass fibers were considered: untreated, silane treated and coated with two different thin elastomeric interlayers. These crosslinked elastomers were based on a liquid rubber (CTBN) and a hardener which was either a cycloaliphatic diamine or an aminosilane. The effect of the introduction of a soft interlayer between the fiber and an epoxy matrix on the average interfacial shear strength was studied using the fragmentation test.
