Abstract
This chapter introduces the problem of Heidegger's politics by first covering his alleged affair with Nazism—proliferated by Victor Farías's publication of Heidegger and Nazism—and his commitment to National Socialism. It briefly mentions past publications that deal with the relation of Heidegger's thought to his politics and introduces what sets this book apart from other publications. It suggests that the passage of a decade offers enough distance to provide a more balanced treatment of interpretations of Heidegger's political life and thought. Heidegger's affair with Hannah Arendt—as was portrayed in the 1987 drama l'affaire Heidegger—has been the subject of study of his person and conduct. This book, however deviates from that and instead focuses on Heidegger's thinking rather than his life.
