Abstract

For too long, writings by women philosophers, philosophical works that advance gender equity, and non-Western traditions have been brushed aside by the mainstream philosophy for various reasons. The Journal of Chinese Philosophy will mark its 50th anniversary in 2023 and I am delighted and very honored to be invited to organize a special issue on the theme of women and gender in Asian philosophy.We know that numerous thinkers from antiquity to the 19th century, from both the East and the West, have made offensive remarks about women, their bodies, their sensibilities, and their so-called lack of reason.
