s of Israel and Students in Universities: Studies, Employment and Sources of Income. 3The Sephardi Jews, who were born (or whose parents were born) in North Africa or in one of the Middle Eastern countries, are disproportionally represented in the lower socioeconomic strata; about 60 percent of Israeli Jews are Sephardi. The Ashkenazi Jews, who were born in (or whose parents immigrated from) Europe or America, are heavily concentrated in the higher strata and make up the remaining 40 percent of Israel's Jewish population.
