Abstract
It is shown that tokamaks can be intrinsicallysteady state without seed currents by couplingpotato bootstrap current in the region close tothe magnetic axis to the banana bootstrap currentaway from the axis. The equilibria found are highlyelongated (e.g. κ = 3) and have naturallyreversed shear profiles. The verticalinstability of elongated tokamaks and the theory of theenhanced reversed shear mode for this class ofequilibria are also developed.
