Abstract

A general method is presented for the construction of intrinsic states in the rotational (SU(3)) limit of the interacting boson model. Explicit results are given for the low-lying bands (leading irreducible SU(3) representations) for three versions of the interacting boson model: the original s-italicd-italic model (IBA-1), the extended version which includes the g-italic boson, and the neutron-proton (IBA-2) model. As an application, U(6)containsSU(3) and U(15)containsSU(3) isoscalar factors are derived.
