Abstract

This paper outlines some of the features associated with the synthesizing and processing of pole figure information derived from X-ray texture-goniometric analyses on fine-grained rocks. Specifically, it is shown that the pole figure generated by the basal planes of illite in Penrhyn slate can be adequately described in a mathematical sense through the use of a particular spherical harmonic function—the associated Legendre polynomial.
