Abstract

Intrinsic element is the elements that make up the literary work itself.The purpose of analyzing the intrinsic elements of the short story is to determine the content of the story. The purpose of the research is to describe the intrinsic elements in a collection of short story by Oscar Wilde and to describe the implication of short story of learning English in senior high school. This research is a qualitative descriptive. The methodsed in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. The researcher used several data collection techniques to analyze the intrinsic elements in a collection of short story by Oscar Wilde and investigate the implication in learning English, namely documentation and interview. The results of the data were obtained by reading, taking notes, and coding the sentences contained the intrinsic elements in a collection of short story by Oscar Wilde, namely: the Happy Prince, the Nightingale and the Rose, the Selfish Giant, and the Devoted Friend. The intrinsic elements are character, characterization, plot, setting, theme, message, and the interpreting to linking short story as the object of research to the implication of learning English in senior high school. The validity of the data in the research used the observation persistence technique and had been tested by a peer debriefing. The results of the research are in the form of the intrinsic elements explanation in a collection of short story by Oscar Wilde and the implication of short story of learning English in senior high school.
