The intrinsic coercivity of Nd–Fe–B permanent magnets measured by the electromagnet method is substantially enlarged if it is close to or greater than the saturation magnetization of the electromagnet pole caps. This enlargement is caused by a dominant demagnetizing field against overall magnetic reversal.
