Abstract
Summary Investigation on the physiology of alkaloid biosynthesis gave the following results: 1. Alkaloid cells are formed in sterile tissue cultures of Macleaya cordata R. Br. (Papaveraceae). 2. Alkaloids as Protopine, Sanguinarine and Allocryptopine are produced in the callus. Light microscope investigations demonstrate that there alkaloids are localized mainly in the alkaloid cells. 3. A method is described which enables to localize precipitates of alkaloids in electron micrographs. 4. Furthermore, radioactive alkaloids are localized in the cell by means of electron microscope autoradiography. Fraulein I. M iethe danken wir fur ihre gewissenhafte und zuverlassige Mitarbeit.
