Abstract

Here, they showed three different cytological findingsobserved in voided urine smears corresponding to twopatients who had received intravesical BCG for bladdercarcinoma.Figure C-1 corresponds to a patient within 3 months af-ter instillation, and acute inflammatory cells and somehistiocytes, degenerated urothelial cells with intracytoplas-matic inclusions, in a numerous necrotic debris back-ground can be observed.Figure C-2 corresponds to a patient 1 year after initialtherapy. Some cellular groups remembering granuloma-like effect are observed, and it is possible to appreciatethat these cellular groups are formed by a mixture of his-tiocytes and epithelioid cells.Figure C-3 corresponds to the same patient as that ofthe one in Figure C-2, though it comes from differentsample, showing a giant cell with a lot of nuclei locatedat the margins and forming the typical ‘‘half-moon’’ dis-position (Langhans’ type) in a hemorrhagic background.
