Abstract

This article provides an overview of the legal and professional aspects of intravenous (IV) therapy practice in the UK. Key principles of practice will be reviewed including consent, accountability, confidentiality, negligence and the expanded role of the nurse. These themes are underpinned by IV therapy examples.
