Abstract

Ten adult patients in status asthmaticus were randomized to a controlled, double-blind, prospective trial of 20 mg vs 125 mg of methylprednisolone sodium succinate given intravenously every six hours for seven days. Individual responses were variable, but the magnitude and pattern of mean spirometric improvement in both groups were not significantly different The study revealed no apparent advantage in using the higher dosage.
