Abstract

AbstractA pepsin‐treated gammaglobulin preparation was intravenously administered to nineteen patients who developed severe infections after treatment for malignant tumors of the female genital tract. Fourteen of the nineteen patients (73.7%) showed a good or fair response to the gammaglobulin preparation. This preparation was especially effective against urinary tract and retroperitoneal space infections and against E. coli, Enterobacter and Pseudomonas. Immunoglobulin‐G (IgG) continued to increase in good and fair responders until seven days after gammaglobulin treatment. IgG and the percentage of B cells in good responders increased in parallel, although the cause of this finding could not be fully elucidated. Adverse reactions to the gammaglobulin preparation were not observed in any patients.
