Abstract

Background: Vaginoplasty utilizing sigmoid colon has the advantage of spontaneous mucus production similar to a native vagina and appropriate vaginal length. Neovaginal diverting colitis, a potential side effect of sigmoid vaginoplasty, is an inflammatory process that affects the colonic tissue. Patients may present with vaginal pain, postcoital bleeding, vaginal spotting, and dyspareunia. Treatment for neovaginal diversion colitis includes a combination of intravaginal application mesalamine foam and sodium butyrate enemas.
