Abstract
Arachnoiditis ossificans is an uncommon chronic meningeal nflammatory process that typically affects adults [1]. The exact athophysiological substrate is unknown but the condition may be he result of end-stage adhesive arachnoiditis secondary to spinal urgery, trauma, subarachnoid haemorrhage, lumbar taps or injecions [2]. Although the vast majority of arachnoid calcifications are ot clinically significant, arachnoiditis ossificans implies clinical eterioration caused by calcified plaques [2]. Back pain, radicuopathy, sensory disturbances and incontinence can occur due to ompression of the nerve roots or the spinal cord. Resection of he calcified plaques usually yields poor results, especially when he calcifications enclose the caudal fibres [2]. We report successul treatment of chemotherapy-induced arachnoiditis ossificans by ntrathecal administration of bupivacaine.
