Abstract

Examinations of the oral cavities of 2,258 neonates demonstrated a high frequency of gingival and palatal cysts (of the newborn), leukoedema, and median alveolar notches. Alveolar lymphangiomas, ankyloglossia, and commissural lip pits were seen relatively frequently; several other conditions were seen rarely. A difference in the frequencies between the races or sexes was documented for most of the conditions.
