Abstract

Compared to the posterior lumbar surgery, oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) can achieve immediate segmental stability and indirect decompression with less blood, less paravertebral muscle injury, and less facet joint violation, which has attracted much attention. However, limitations regarding the decompression efficacy of OLIF exist. Herein, we propose a new hypothesis that direct decompression can be well achieved by the intraoperative ultrasound guidance assisted OLIF (IUG-OLIF). This innovative technology will make it possible to treat serious lumbar spinal stenosis in a very minimally invasive and safe way.
