Abstract

Abstract Dielectric absorption studies have been made (with one exception) in the ranges 80–280K and 10 2 –10 5 Hz of eight ketones of the type C 6 H 5 COR where R is varied from CH 3 to C 10 H 21 in a polystyrene matrix. An intramolecular relaxation process has been found in each case with an enthalpy of activation of the same order of magnitude as that for acetyl group relaxation in acetophenone, 4-acetylbiphenyl and 1,4-diacetylbenzene. Feasible intramolecular relaxation processes have been considered.
