Abstract

The complex Cr(IV)(O 2)(NH 3) 3 shows an absorption band at λ max=390 nm which is assigned to a dσ ∗ metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) transition from Cr(IV) to the coordinated peroxide. Upon MLCT excitation the aqueous complex undergoes an intramolecular oxidative addition of peroxide to Cr(IV) leading to chromate with φ=0.35 at λ irr=254 nm.
