Abstract

Tying the knot: In analogy to singlet carbenes, vinyl cations insert into CH bonds in a concerted intramolecular reaction, as shown by experimental investigations and quantum mechanical calculations. This reaction is useful for the synthesis of cyclopentane derivatives.
