Abstract

Summary Intraglobulin fractional analysis by a simple in vitro battery of determinations consisting of the serum mucoprotein (M), acid precipitable globulin (APG) turbidity, zinc sulfate (ZS) turbidity, total bound polysaccharide (Ptp) was studied in 100 patients with hepatocellular jaundice and 60 patients with obstructive jaundice. Alterations in the profile characterized by reduced M, reduced APG, high ZS, low APG/ZS values were associated with hepatocellular jaundice, whereas normal or high M, high APG, normal or low ZS, high APG/ZS values were usually found with obstructive jaundice. This profile compared favorably with the cephalin flocculation, alkaline phosphatase and other established aids in the differential diagnosis of jaundice.
