Abstract

A patient is presented with marked widening of the lumbosacral part of the spinal subarachnoid space and scalloping of the corresponding vertebrae. Within the widened canal two arachnoid cysts were found at operation. These intradural arachnoid cysts are very rarely encountered in this region. The pathophysiological mechanisms responsible for the production of the various types of cysts are discussed, with a review of the literature.
