Abstract

Two patients with Sylvian fissure arachnoid cyst of the middle cranial fossa developed subdural hematomas due to intracystic hemorrhage following rupture of the cyst membrane. The only presenting symptom was headache. Hematomas were evacuated and it was noted that the cy sts were communicating with subarachnoid and subdural spaces. Radiological follow-up showed resolution of subdural hematomas though cysts were persistent. Patients remained symptom-free for a period of 4 years so far.
