Abstract

Downstream insulin receptor signaling in adipose tissue is crucial for a functional metabolism. The insulin receptor is expressed as a pro-receptor and further processed into its mature subunits during the passage through the Golgi apparatus, before it is transported from the trans-Golgi network to the plasma membrane. ARFRP1 is a trans-Golgi residing small GTPase and involved in intracellular trafficking events. This study aims to elucidate the impact of ARFRP1 on intracellular sorting and trafficking of the insulin receptor in adipocytes and fat tissue.
