Abstract
Using the ‘inside-out’ configuration of frog sensory neurons, we studied the effect of intracellular picrotoxin on the pentobarbital-gated single channel response of Cl −-current ( i Cl). The pentobarbital-induced i Cl showed no voltage-dependency and the single channel conductance ( γ Cl) was 16±3.1 pS ( n = 6). Picrotoxin caused the pentobarbital-gated Cl − channels to react in a flickering pattern and then finally caused them to cease their opening altogether. This inhibitory action of picrotoxin was reversible.
