Abstract
Fifteen patients with malignant tumors involving the liver were treated with hepatic intraarterial injection of yttrium 90 microsphres. With the exception of one patient, no acute or long-term side effects were noted. Four patients are alive and functionally active with follow-up periods of 6, 6, 9, and 12 months. Vascularity of the metastases, absence of extrahepatic disease, and performance status prior to treatment were determining factors for a successful result.
