Abstract

Diazepam (Valium) was injected directly into the renal and mesenteric arteries of 10 dogs. There was no histologic evidence of vascular or end-organ toxicity. Spinal seizures due to selective spinal cord arteriography in monkeys were completely suppressed with intra-arterial diazepam. The volume of contrast agent required to induce spinal seizures in dogs was doubled by a preliminary intra-arterial infusion of diazepam. Potential clinical applications are discussed.
