Abstract

Developments in the business environment in the last decade of the 20th century and the responses of corporations to these have set the stage for entering the first decade of the 21st century. This perspective attempts to anticipate the developments in the new decade and identify a set of issues for management. The expectation is that the change process will accelerate further. The overall import of the issues is that the Indian corporations should take a proactive approach to strategy formulation and implementation. Their response should be based on the strengths they have and would like to build and not on the weaknesses that they developed in the past. They should create a distinctive attribute of their own, and not jump into the bandwagon to try out whatever is internationally popular or fashionable.
