Abstract

An analysis of the drama Intisdr al-Fadila aw Hadithat al-Ibna al-Isra'iliyya from the Lebanese author Antun Shihaybar points out that Shihaybar's play can be named an adaption of the classical drama Nathan der Weise from the German dramatist and philosopher Gotthold Ephraim Lessing (1729-81). Further, the article shows Intisdr al-Fadila aw Hadithat al-Ibna al-Isra'iliyya as an adaptation of Nathan der Weise is a typical example of the modern Arabic theatre of this time as well as a reflection of Lebanese society with special regard to Jewish Lebanese society.
