Abstract

The author makes a synthesis of the different communications concerning personal convictions presented on Monday the 23rd of February 2015 at the National School for Magistrates (Paris). The psychoanalytical, psychological, neurological, psychiatric and judicial approaches are reviewed as well as concepts in relation to doubt, belief, fanaticism and psychotic disorders. In France, the concept of personal conviction interests particularly the judicial system since in criminal law, magistrates judge according to their ‘personal convictions’.
