Abstract

Several authors have attempted monographs on the subject of intestinal stomas that would at once be of interest to the surgeon, the nursetherapist, and the patient. Few have met their expressed goals. The presentations are either too simplistic for the surgeon, or too detailed for the therapist or patient. Ian Todd has filled this void and published an all-inclusive book about intestinal stomas that is much more than a care manual or a review of operative techniques. <i>Intestinal Stomas</i>answers detailed questions for the surgeon, the therapist, and the patient. Its contents range from excellent sections on surgical techniques (with clear and precise line drawings) to detailed instructions for the care of stomas, wounds, skin, and the life problems of the ostomates (rehabilitation, available appliances, sexual relations, childbirth, etc.) There is even a chapter concerning stoma therapy in developing societies!
